at Qantas about future
Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association Secretary Steve Purvinas laid down a challenge to the airline today, calling off overtime bans and industrial action for three weeks.
He accused Qantas of misleading the public about seven grounded aircraft, which he says maintenance plans show are set to be sold off in the next few weeks.
"We think they may have been having a lend of people by announcing that these aircraft are grounded due to industrial action because all of their paperwork internally says that they were for sale."
The parties failed to reach an agreement on pay and conditions with Fair Work Australia on Thursday despite Prime Minister Julia Gillard urging them to get it fixed.
Senator Evans said the union decision was "a bit of a peace offering" and hoped it would prompt a genuine breakthrough.
At the heart of the dispute was a fundamental concern by Qantas workers about job security after the airline announced plans to send jobs offshore earlier this year wow po, the minister said.
"I'm not critical of that decision, all I'm saying is, is that that is unnerving for the workforce," Senator Evans told Sky News.
"I think Qantas workers are worried about the decisions the Qantas board have announced wow gold, they are worried about what it means about their long term job prospects."
Senator Evans said the use of subsidiaries and crews from other countries of origins fed into a distrust which seemed to be at the heart of the dispute.
"The distrust in the Qantas environment is really worrying."
Mr Purvinas said Qantas had "absolutely no intention" of carrying out the maintenance of the latest additions to its fleet in the A380 and the 787 in Australia gw2 gold.
"Through our negotiations we are trying to seek the facility so we can at least bid for that work, something that Qantas are not prepared to give us," he said.
Qantas had just pulled a figure out of the air saying aircraft engineers were paid $170,000 a year hoping people would believe them, when the average base salary was about $90,000, Mr Purvinas said wow gold po.
"It's just a fabrication," he said Acheter Des PO.
"I really think they are trying to wind everyone up into thinking these big, bad union people are causing damage to the economy to seek some government intervention when that's not actually the case."
Senator Evans said the government intervention was a live option, with potential for the dispute to become more serious but the government had not been approached by Qantas or the unions to intervene.
